There is a great difference between a Hessemer palette knife painting and all the others who resort to the knife for superficial effects. Until a painter can paint the figure, or any other thing with the dexterity of a brush he is not painting, he is dabbling in cosmetics. One can only appreciate that difference when viewing a Hessemer original.
